This side-tank logging Mallet left Baldwin in November 1924 as Bloedel Donovan Lumber Mills #8. With its sister engine #9, #8 worked the woods near Bellingham, Washington until Bloedel Donovan was purchased by Rayonier Inc. in 1945. #8 was shipped to Rayonier's Clallam operation near Sekiu, Washington and by 1964 the 8-spot was the last active steam locomotive on the Clallam line. Retired by Rayonier in 1964, the veteran of 40 years in the woods was saved from the torch by Peter J. Replinger and Byron Cole of Shelton, WA. #8 was kept in storage at Sekiu until 1973 when it was taken by barge to Shelton, where the old Mallet remains in storage.
